Bijoux Falls, Number Three

Bijoux Falls, Number Three

I went for a drive looking for a waterfall that would make for some nice photos. This one was about two hours north of where I was living at the time. That’s a long way to go for a few shots, but waterfalls are usually worth it. The roll I took that day was largely forgettable but thankfully I got this shot.

I was knee deep in the river trying to get a half decent shot of the falls. I finished and turned to climb back onto the bank when I noticed this very weathered and textured piece of wood. It had obviously come down the falls and settled in its spot, luckily for me. As I’ve mentioned before, I think the secret of a good driftwood shot is to get in good and close. This subject is all about the texture and tones and filling the frame. The texture of this wood is beautiful and the light was nice enough to allow me to get some detail in the shadows underneath, adding some depth.
