Young Birch in winter, Camp Barrachois

Young Birch in winter, Camp Barrachois

Another trip to Cape Breton to stay at a friend’s cottage, another trip to the old Camp Barrachois to check out the abandoned summer camp. This was the first time I had been to explore it in the winter — there are a few photo of it in the summer here and here — and it was just as interesting covered in snow. I needed snowshoes to get around the property as it has snowed quite often on Cape Breton this winter and the undisturbed property had plenty of the white stuff, too much for boots alone.

It was a slightly overcast day but quite bright, making these young Birch trees pop in the light. Once again I managed to take quite a few photos of the snow covered buildings and fields. Other than the many animal footprints, it felt completely lonely and quiet. I wonder how long it’ll last as I hear a rumour it’s been sold.
