Sinking, Whitby harbour

Sinking, Whitby harbour

I find manmade objects being slowly reclaimed by nature absolutely fascinating. Whether deep in the woods or on a windswept beach, the forces that build and nurture can be found consuming and destroying. Here a picninc table — a mundane object of recreation — is slowly sinking and being covered by sand. The waves pound and the wind pushes. This object — meant to withstand the pressures of abuse by picnickers and vandals — stands no chance against them.

In a moment of reflection this poor table’s story seems allegorical, a mirror of our own journey: created, consumed, destroyed, forgotten.
