Bedroom, Green Gables

When my mom visited this summer we decided to take a trip to Prince Edward Island and take in a few sights. One of the biggest attractions on the island is, of course, Green Gables Heritage Place, the location used in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s famous stories about Anne. The site is near Cavendish, a gorgeous area on the north side of the island. Just a visit to the beach and its incredible dunes is worth a visit.

Luckily for us we visited after the high summer season and managed to get there on a day that wasn’t overrun with busloads of people. I realize places like this depend on the hordes for the majority of its funding, but I can’t help but feel the souls of these sites are emptied just a little more with the arrival of each bus.

We walked around the grounds and did a small hike through the woods behind the famous house and then through the house itself. Like I said, I’m glad we were there on a relatively quiet day so I could take my time in the rooms and not worry about getting elbowed by people in their rush to get through and check it off their list and get to the gift shop. I managed to take a few decent shots of the interior in both black and white and colour.

Overall, a nice visit to a Canadian cultural landmark.
