I needed a walk over the Thanksgiving weekend, and as the sun was shining I decided to set out from home and walk around the peninsula for a few hours with my camera. I hadn’t done much exploring in the middle part of the peninsula, so I hiked over the Citadel and made my way in that general direction.
I found myself on the common where there was little going on, probably due to the holiday, so it was nice to take my time and wander. I headed up Cunard Street toward Windsor Street, then onto Chebucto Road where the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts has its home. Did you know that the basement of this school served as a makeshift morgue during the Halifax Explosion? Amazing.
Many of the trees in the city seemed to have gone from full crown to empty in a matter of days. The trees along the sidewalk had lost all of theirs and cast some great shadows over the side of the Conservatory. The shadows combined with the bright midday sun make for interesting patterns. I find this photo a little difficult to look at as there is so much going on, but the repeated rectangles of the windows and doors provide some structure.
