Old boots / New boots

Old boots / New boots

Finally found an excellent pair of boots to replace my beaten-down pair.

My old boots are now eight-years-old and are definitely showing their age. When I was in Europe earlier this year our guide Juliette mentioned how ratty and close to death my boots were. She didn’t think they would last the two weeks and I was insulted! I guess I deserved it and the shoe goo holding them together wasn’t helping my cause. So when I saw these boots for a great price at MEC — and it being perfect timing as a present to myself for my 45th birthday — I decided it was meant to be. For those that are interested, they’re the Zamberlan 960 Guide GTX RR model, handmade in Italy.

But these old boots have taken me to some incredible places: to the top of Kilimanjaro, over the Andes, through the Himalayas and around the Alps, as well as Nova Scotia from end-to-end and side-to-side. I’ll miss them, they’ve been a faithful servant to my cause of spending time outside.

Here’s hoping these new boots have just as much adventure in store for me. I can’t wait to hit the trail.
