The Avett Brothers rock Halifax

The Avett Brothers rock Halifax

I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to the sold out Avett Brothers show here in Halifax last night and I’m very happy that I did. The show was amazing, maybe in my top five ever. That’s a pretty high compliment considering the number of shows I’ve seen in my years. I know the band plays a lot of outdoor festivals and they’d be fun to see in that setting, but the small venue atmosphere really put this show over the top.

The sound at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium is incredible and they filled every little bit of it last night. On top of the very high sound quality, the energy they have is astounding. It’s no wonder they’re such skinny guys! They didn’t stop the whole show — almost two hours — and they moved seamlessly from their well-known, quieter folk to straight up heavy rock to gospel to country. Their voices and harmony are heart-meltingly beautiful and they showed it off without missing a note. The band was tight and their musicianship was impressive.

I’ve said before how much I love live music and this show just piled on more proof that I’m not crazy for feeling that way. A much as I like putting my headphones on and just letting the music wash over me, it’ll never equal a live show, especially when you have a band like the Avett Brothers putting everything they have into a performance. They’re true professionals, they didn’t seem to let up at all for us here in little ol’ Halifax and their passion for their art came through in every note.

It was a top-notch show in a great venue with a great crowd. I can’t wait to see them again.
