Love this! Today, the Government of Nova Scotia released its new Parks and Protected Areas Plan, protecting almost 14% of the province. This puts Nova Scotia second in the country, behind British Columbia (another province I love).
This is great news for the province as it takes a serious look at the long-term protection of some unique and special areas that have so often in the past been left to industry and destructive ownership. Parks and wilderness areas are something near and dear to my heart and it fills me with pride that the province I now call home agrees.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society has a news release with more details, and the Nova Scotia government website has an interactive map and the plan itself.
The photograph above was taken this summer in the White Lake Wilderness Area, part of this plan. I can’t wait to do some more exploring!
