Watched, United Nations

These two buildings are part of the United Nations Headquarters at 3 United Nations Plaza, on the east side of Manhattan. The UN site is kind of cool because it’s international territory, belonging to the member nations of the UN, not the US or New York. The security isn’t overwhelming and you can wander around fairly unrestricted. There are of course cameras everywhere, exactly what you’d expect at a location like this.

My brother and I had walked an insane amount that day and decided to walk up the east side as far as we could go, hopefully making it back to our hotel in one piece. We cabbed down to Battery Park to check out the harbour and then walked up Broadway to Foley Square, then west again to Hudson, up Hudson all the way back up to the West Village, then across the Flatiron District, up Madison Avenue to 42nd Street to check out Grand Central Terminal, then east on 42nd to 1st Avenue where the UN Headquarters are. The north again to East 57th where we walked east to the end of the street where there’s a little parkette overlooking the river with a good view of the Queensboro Bridge. I might post that photo sometime. Then a quick walk back to 5th Avenue and West 59th where we were staying. Whew! We had a ton of fun shooting the whole way, so I’m really happy we walked all that way. We saw way more than you can from a car or a lame tour bus.
