Description:

Mysterious, magic, touching! Emil Gataullin describes rural living in Russia in poetic black-and-white images. In it Gataullin emerges as a modern day Russian Cartier-Bresson.

Quote:

L says, “I don’t know what Emil does differently. But he does something differently from us.”

Review:

Beautiful, simple, poetic work. Gataullin never seems to be trying to get the shot, he seems to be simply surrounded by them. The result is a collection of photographs that are natural, expressive, and attractive. In a world where everyone seems to be taking pictures hoping for attention, likes, retweets, this work feels so quiet and unassuming. It’s easy to forget there are people taking pictures simply for the joy of it, simply to try to understand a small slice of a crazy world.
