Extra days off are good for experiments, even when you forget to check the focus. I’ve been thinking of trying semi-stand development using HC-110 developer. I went for a walk around the neighbourhood with a plastic camera — Lomo Belair 6x12 — and a roll of film from a batch I keep for testing — Arista EDU 400 — came home, developed it and scanned it after it dried.
I normally develop using HC-110 at 1+49 for 8.5 minutes, this semi-stand was developed at 1+160 for 45 minutes. I’m pretty impressed with the results, decent tonal range even from a crappy lens without a hood on a sunny afternoon, and nice, smooth grain. I will definitely try this method again when I don’t need to rush development.
